Dear Tricare: I will gnaw your dangly balls off with my teeth.

Mom's oncologist, it turns out, doesn't take Tricare. So she had to move to another oncologist. This one is concerned about the size and something about speed of the tumor's growth, so she wants to run the oncogene test to make the final determination on whether chemo will be necessary.

Alas, Tricare doesn't cover the oncogene test. Of course it doesn't. Why would it? Such a valuable tidbit of information could not possibly be of use in avoiding unnecessary chemo, which is exactly what it could do.

The test is $4000. There might or might not be patient financial aid services for this test. We'll see. Without it, chemo will be a definitely recommendation.

Mother. Fucking. Woot.

Once again, Tricare shows off its perfectly shiny asshole, waxed and bleached c/o tax dollars, and offering shit that is no less brown and stanky.

I've fucking had it. With the world.

How can they justify not covering necessary treatment? So weird. My dad's cancer fight was paid for by Tricare/Medicare and they covered it all. Is there some appeals process?

Yes, because paying for possibly unnecessary chemo makes so much more sense than paying for a patient to get a test, and possibly avoiding such a costly, and rigorous treatment with awful side effects. I'm always harping at Tricare about covering preventative measures when they're on Facebook and Twitter trying to be all "Look at us! We're so great because we cover this, and this." Then I come along and say "That's great, but you'd save so much more money if you'd cover this and this too. Assholes.

Sending lots of positive energy and hugs, and hoping everything works out for your mom.

Tricare blows. I was told not to have testing for the breast cancer gene, because if I have it, they can deny me treatment later on down the road. WHA?!

I hope they take their head out of their collective ass and give your mom what she needs.
